Installation and maintenance of spot welding machines

The welding machine must be properly grounded before use to ensure personal safety. Before using the welding machine, use a 500V megohmmeter to test the insulation resistance between the high-voltage side of the welding machine and the casing; it must not be less than 2.5 megohms before powering on. During maintenance, the power must be disconnected before opening the package for inspection. The welding machine must be supplied with water before welding; operation is strictly prohibited without water. The cooling water supply should be industrial water at a pressure of 0.15-0.2MPa and a temperature of 5-30℃. After welding in winter, use compressed air to blow out the water from the pipes to prevent them from freezing and cracking.

 

The welding machine leads should not be too thin or too long. The voltage drop during welding should not exceed 5% of the initial voltage, and the initial voltage should not deviate from the power supply voltage by ±10%. Wear gloves, an apron, and safety glasses when operating the welding machine to avoid burns from flying sparks. Sliding parts should be well lubricated, and metal spatter should be removed after use. After using a new welding machine for 24 hours, tighten all screws on all components, paying particular attention to the screws connecting the copper flexible connector and the electrodes. After use, regularly remove any oxides from the electrode rod and electrode arm to ensure good contact.

 

If the AC contactor fails to engage properly during welding, it indicates low mains voltage. The user should first resolve the power supply issue; use the machine only after the power supply is normal. It should be noted that if a new welding machine experiences a main component quality problem within two weeks of purchase, a new welding machine or a replacement main component can be provided. The welding machine main unit is covered by a one-year warranty, with long-term maintenance service. Generally, after the user notifies the manufacturer, service will be provided within three to seven days, depending on the distance. Damage caused by the user is not covered under warranty. Consumable parts and easily damaged parts are not covered under warranty.

 

Since the electrode contact area determines the current density, and the resistivity and thermal conductivity of the electrode material affect heat generation and dissipation, the shape and material of the electrode significantly influence the formation of the weld nugget. As the electrode tip deforms and wears, the contact area increases, and the weld strength decreases. Oxides, dirt, oil, and other impurities on the workpiece surface increase contact resistance. An excessively thick oxide layer can even prevent current from passing through. Localized conduction, due to excessive current density, can cause spatter and surface burn-off. The presence of an oxide layer can also affect the uneven heating of various weld points, causing fluctuations in weld quality. Therefore, thoroughly cleaning the workpiece surface is essential to ensuring a high-quality joint.
