Mechanical use of spot welding machines

Spot welding machine operation instructions:

 

1. Before welding, adjust the position of the electrode rods so that the electrode arms remain parallel to each other when they just touch the workpiece.

 

2. The current adjustment switch level can be selected according to the thickness and material of the workpiece. After powering on, the power indicator light should illuminate. The electrode pressure can be adjusted by changing the compression degree of the spring pressure nut.

 

3. After completing the above adjustments, connect the cooling water first, then connect the power supply to prepare for welding. Welding procedure: Place the workpiece between the two electrodes, step on the foot pedal to bring the upper electrode into contact with the workpiece and apply pressure. As you continue to press down the foot pedal, the power contact switch is activated, and the transformer starts working, energizing the secondary circuit to heat the workpiece. After welding for a certain time, release the foot pedal; the electrode rises, and the spring pull first cuts off the power supply before returning to its original position, thus completing the single-point welding process.

 

4. Welding Part Preparation and Assembly: Before welding, all dirt, oil, scale, and rust must be removed from steel weldments. For hot-rolled steel, it is best to first pickle, sandblast, or use a grinding wheel to remove scale from the weld area. While uncleaned weldments can be spot-welded, this severely reduces electrode lifespan and lowers both production efficiency and quality. Medium and low carbon steels with thin coatings can be welded directly.

1. Welding Time: When welding medium and low carbon steel, this welding machine can utilize either a strong-specification welding method (instantaneous energization) or a weak-specification welding method (long-term energization). In mass production, the strong-specification welding method should be used, as it improves production efficiency, reduces energy consumption, and minimizes workpiece deformation.

2. Welding Current: The welding current depends on the size, thickness, and contact surface conditions of the weldment. Generally, the higher the conductivity of the metal, the greater the electrode pressure, and the shorter the welding time should be. The required current density also increases accordingly.

3. Electrode pressure: The purpose of applying pressure to the workpiece by the electrode is to reduce the contact resistance at the weld joint and to ensure the pressure required for the weld joint to form.
