Will Hot Cooling Water in A Spot Welding Machine Affect The Welding Results?

If the cooling water in a spot welding machine becomes extremely hot during welding, continuing to use this hot water will definitely reduce its cooling effect and negatively impact the welding process.

 

The reason spot welding machines need cooling is because the high current flowing through the entire circuit for an extended period generates heat, including in the controller, transformer, copper busbars, cables, handles, and electrodes. The workpiece also transfers heat to secondary connection parts such as the electrodes during the heating process.

 

Continuous overheating of the controller and transformer can affect component lifespan or even burn them out. Overheating of the electrodes reduces the lifespan of the welding head. Residual heat also affects the welding effect, often resulting in electrode sticking, rapid electrode wear, and fluctuating energy levels despite a consistent current duration.

 

Spot welding machine cooling is also related to the welding cycle time, which is influenced by the machine's structure and load rate. Excluding other influencing factors, a faster welding cycle time requires higher cooling standards.

 

The extent to which the heat generated by the cooling water affects welding depends on the overall structure of the spot welding machine, the desired welding effect, the welding cycle time, and other factors. It is recommended to replace the cooling water tank with a larger capacity and higher flow rate when the cooling water becomes too hot, and to use a chiller with refrigeration function for cooling if necessary.
